Does it fit the 2nd generation AirTag as well as the original?
Yes. The recess fits both the 1st and 2nd generation Apple AirTag, and it also takes the Motorola Moto Tag.
Is the AirTag included?
No. You get the holder only and drop in your own tracker, so you can move it between assets or replace the tag without buying a new mount.
Why is it plastic rather than machined metal?
Because metal is the wrong material for a tracker case. An aluminium or steel shell sits between the tag's aerial and the phones it needs to reach, weakening the signal and draining the battery faster. Plastic lets the signal straight through. The only metal here is the magnet, and it sits behind the tag.
How strong is the magnet, and will it fall off?
It is a high-grade neodymium magnet and it holds hard on clean ferrous metal. Ours have stayed put on engine bays, trailers and excavators. It does need metal a magnet actually grips, so aluminium bodywork, stainless trim and plastic panels are not suitable - for those use the SLIM, the BASIC or the SUPREME, which all carry the same 3M VHB adhesive pad. The BASIC is the cheapest way to get it.
Can I leave it outside all year?
Yes. It is water resistant, vibration resistant and impact resistant, and it is designed for permanent outdoor mounting on vehicles and machinery.
What is the difference between the ORIGINAL and the SLIM?
The magnet is the same strength in both. The ORIGINAL has a chunkier, more rugged body for industrial use, the SLIM is smaller and less noticeable and adds a 3M VHB adhesive pad for surfaces a magnet can't grip.
