Our simplest holder and our cheapest: a 3M VHB pad for flat surfaces, and zip-tie slots for round and awkward ones. No magnet — and on a great many jobs you won't miss it. A tie wrap through a steel frame, a stud, a scaffold pole or a bike frame holds through anything, and unlike a magnet it cannot be knocked, pulled or lifted off.

Two ways to fix it

3M VHB adhesive — not ordinary double-sided tape. VHB is the industrial foam adhesive used to bond panels on vehicles and buildings, and on a clean, smooth, dry surface it forms a bond you will need a blade to break. Wipe the surface with isopropyl alcohol, press firmly for thirty seconds and leave it a few hours before you go anywhere.

Zip ties — for anything the pad can't grip, whatever it is made of. Round, textured, dirty or oily surfaces are exactly where adhesive struggles and a tie wrap doesn't care: bicycle frames and seat posts, motorcycle subframes, scaffold poles, steel studs and gate frames, ladders, strimmers, drills, cases, luggage handles, trailer rails.

So when would you want a magnet instead?

Honestly — when speed matters more than permanence. A magnet needs no surface prep and no curing time, and it lifts off in a second, so if you are moving one tracker around a fleet or a yard full of kit, our ORIGINAL or SUPREME will suit you better. If the tracker is staying put on one asset, this one does the same job for less money and holds every bit as well.

Why plastic and not metal

Machined aluminium and steel holders put metal between your tracker's aerial and the phones that need to find it. The signal weakens, the tag works harder, and the battery goes sooner. This one is plastic all the way through, so your tag reports from further away and lasts as long as it should.

Built for outside

Water resistant, vibration resistant and impact resistant. Left on a bike through a winter, it will be fine.

Which of the four should you buy?

  • ORIGINAL — the toughest magnetic mount, for metal assets and industrial use.
  • SLIM — the same magnet in a smaller body, plus the same 3M VHB pad.
  • BASIC (this one) — 3M VHB pad and zip ties, no magnet. The cheapest of the four.
  • SUPREME — magnet, pad and zip ties in one slim body.

Designed and 3D printed in bio-plastic in our own family workshop in Bristol. Fine print lines are normal on a 3D-printed part and make no difference to how it works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this one have a magnet, and will I miss it?
No magnet - it fixes with a 3M VHB adhesive pad or with zip ties. For most people that is plenty: a tie wrap works on steel just as well as on a bike frame, and it can't be knocked or lifted off the way a magnet can. What you give up is speed. A magnet needs no prep and no curing time and moves between vehicles in seconds, so if you are shuffling one tracker around a fleet, look at the ORIGINAL or the SUPREME instead.
Can I zip-tie it to something steel?
Yes, and plenty of customers do. Steel frames, studs, gate posts, scaffold poles, trailer rails - the tie wrap does not care what the material is, and on anything that vibrates hard it is arguably the more secure fixing of the two.
Will the sticky pad hold on a bike?
On a clean, smooth, flat surface, yes - VHB is the industrial adhesive used to bond vehicle panels. But most bike frames are round and often textured, which is the one thing adhesive is bad at. That is why the zip-tie slots are there, and on a frame or seat post we would use them.
How do I get the best bond from the VHB pad?
Wipe the surface with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry, press the holder down hard for about thirty seconds, then leave it a few hours before using the asset. The bond keeps strengthening over the first day.
Does it fit the 2nd generation AirTag and the Moto Tag?
Yes. It takes the 1st and 2nd generation Apple AirTag and the Motorola Moto Tag.
Why is it plastic rather than metal?
A metal shell blocks part of the signal between your tracker and the phones that need to find it, which shortens the range and drains the battery faster. Plastic does not.
