Universal Doorbell Wedge: Which Doorbells Does It Fit?

Most doorbell wedges are made for one back plate. The screw holes are moulded in, so a Ring wedge only takes a Ring, and a Eufy wedge only takes the Eufy models it was shaped for. Our adjustable doorbell wedge has no fixed screw holes at all. You make the holes where your doorbell needs them. That means the same wedge takes a Eufy today and a Google Nest or Blink next year, and turns it anywhere from 25° to 55°, to the left or to the right.

Short on time? Pick the size by the shape of your doorbell:

Don't know your doorbell's model? You're not alone

Ask most people which doorbell they have and they'll say "a Ring" or "a Eufy". Ask which model and it gets harder. Ring alone has sold the Video Doorbell 2nd Gen, 3, 3 Plus, 4, Wired, Pro, Pro 2, Battery Doorbell Plus and Battery Doorbell Pro, and several of them look almost the same once they're on the wall. Eufy, Blink and Nest bring out new wired and battery versions every year or two. The model number is usually on a label on the back of the doorbell or tucked away in the app's settings, so finding it often means taking the doorbell down before you've even bought the mount.

We know this problem from the inside. For more than five years we designed and sold custom wedges and mounts, each one shaped for a single doorbell model. They fitted perfectly, as long as the customer ordered the right one. Too often they didn't. With so many models and so many near-identical names, people ordered the mount for the doorbell they thought they had, it arrived, it didn't fit, and it came back. Nobody had done anything wrong. There were simply too many models to keep straight, and more arriving every year.

So we stopped making a different wedge for every model and designed universal ones instead. With our wedge you don't need the model number at all. You only need to know whether your doorbell is a Ring-size one or a tall, slim one, and you can tell that just by looking at it.

Why most wedges only fit one doorbell

Every doorbell back plate has its screw holes in its own places, and the spacing changes from brand to brand and often from model to model. A fixed wedge has its holes moulded in to match one of those patterns. If your plate's holes don't line up, the wedge doesn't fit, however similar the doorbell looks. It's also why a fixed wedge usually goes in the bin when you change doorbell.

How our universal wedge fits almost any back plate

There are no screw holes on the front of our wedge. Under a thin front skin there is a full grid of screw cells. Hold your doorbell's back plate where you want it, push a small Phillips screwdriver through the skin where each of its holes sits, then drive in the four small stainless steel screws from the box. No template, and no measuring between holes.

  • Punch it, never drill it. A drill bit tears the cells inside and the screw just spins. Press and twist a screwdriver instead.
  • The holes must land inside the fixing area: 145 × 46 mm on the Tall & Slim wedge, 124 × 57 mm on the Regular. That's the only real limit.
  • You keep your doorbell's own back plate. The wedge sits between the plate and the wall, so the doorbell clips on exactly as it did before.

Tall & Slim or Regular: which wedge for your doorbell?

There are two sizes, because a tall, narrow doorbell and a Ring-size one need different shapes. Pick by the shape of your doorbell, not the model number.

Tall & Slim wedge Regular wedge
Made for Tall, narrow doorbells Ring and Ring-size doorbells
Fits Eufy, Google Nest, Blink, Arlo, Aosu, Netatmo, Reolink, Tapo, Wyze, Yale and most other slim video doorbells, wired or battery Every Ring video doorbell, wired or battery (2nd Gen, 3, 3 Plus, 4, Wired, Pro, Pro 2, Battery Doorbell Plus, Battery Doorbell Pro), except the Elite and the Peephole Cam, plus Aqara G4 and G410, Hikvision DS-KV / DS-KS and Ubiquiti G4

Overall size 157 × 60 × 38 mm 136 × 70 × 39 mm

Still not sure? If it's a Ring, or about as wide as one, choose Regular. If it's tall and narrow, choose Tall & Slim. If you want to be certain, check that the screw holes on your back plate fit inside the fixing area above, or send us a photo of your doorbell before you order and we'll tell you which one you need.

We keep Ring, Hikvision and Ubiquiti doorbells off the Tall & Slim list on purpose. Some of them might squeeze on, but "might" is exactly how the wrong-model returns started.

Changing doorbell later? The wedge stays on the wall

This is where a universal wedge earns its keep. When you swap doorbells, the wedge stays on the wall at the same angle. Unscrew the old back plate, hold the new one in place and punch fresh holes for it. New holes right next to the old ones hold fine, because each one goes into its own screw cell.

Eufy to Nest, Nest to Blink, any slim doorbell to another slim one: same wedge. The only change that needs a different wedge is moving to a Ring, which takes the Regular.

Putting a wedge up for the first time? The back of it is designed to line up with the wall holes most doorbells leave behind, so you can usually reuse the holes you already have.

30°, 45° or anything in between

One wedge covers every angle from 25° to 55°, to the left or to the right, so it doesn't matter which side of the door your doorbell is on. At 45° it points the doorbell straight out of a 90° corner. Around 30° suits most doorbells beside a door with the path coming in from the side.

To set it, open your doorbell app and turn the wedge until the path is in the middle of the picture, using the degree markings on the face as a guide. Then tighten the wedge's four black stainless steel body screws to lock the angle. Those four come already fitted. The four small screws in the bag are only for your doorbell's back plate.

If your doorbell came with a small wedge in the box, try that first. Ours is for when it isn't enough. And note that it turns the doorbell left or right only. It doesn't angle it up or down.

Before and after views from a video doorbell. By day, the visitor is half out of frame before and centred after fitting the wedge. At night, infrared glare off a nearby wall washes the picture out before, and the picture is clear after.

By day, the visitor is in the middle of the picture. At night, the lens is turned away from the wall and the glare goes.

Check the night view as well. If your doorbell sits close to a side wall, its infrared light bounces off the wall and back into the lens, washing the picture out. Turning the lens away from that wall usually clears it.

Screws or adhesive?

Every wedge comes with four wall screws and plugs and a 3M VHB adhesive pad, so you can decide on the day. The pad is for smooth, flat, clean and dry surfaces: uPVC or vinyl, glass, glazed tile and painted metal. On brick, render, rough wood, flaky paint or textured cladding, use the screws. Adhesive only holds as well as the surface under it, and weak paint can peel away and take the mount with it.

Guide to fixing a doorbell mount: use the adhesive pad on smooth uPVC or vinyl, glass, glazed tile or painted metal; use screws on brick, render, rough wood, flaky paint or textured cladding

Smooth, flat, clean and dry: use the pad. Anything rough or flaky: use the screws.

Using the pad: clean the wall and the back of the wedge with isopropyl alcohol, and line it up dry first, because it only sticks once. Press it hard for 30 seconds, then wait 24 hours before you hang the doorbell. If your doorbell is wired, sort the cable out before anything goes on the wall (see the questions below).

What's in the box

  • 1 adjustable wedge, with its four body screws already fitted
  • 1 3M VHB adhesive pad (not pre-applied)
  • 4 small stainless steel screws, for fixing your doorbell's back plate to the wedge
  • 8 stainless steel washers in two sizes, for back plates whose screw holes are a little too big for the screw
  • 4 wall screws with wall plugs, for fixing the wedge to the wall

Your doorbell and its back plate aren't included. You use the plate that came with your doorbell.

The honest bits

  • It may be bigger than your doorbell. A universal part can't match every outline, so on smaller doorbells it sits a little wider or taller. That's cosmetic and doesn't affect how securely it holds.
  • It's plastic, on purpose. Heavy-duty UV-stable PETG won't rust, and it won't block your doorbell's Wi-Fi the way a metal mount can.
  • Left or right only. It won't fix a doorbell that's mounted too high or too low.
  • You may see faint layer lines. They're a normal part of 3D printing and make no difference to strength, weather resistance or fit.

Questions people ask

Is it really a universal doorbell wedge?
It fits almost any video doorbell whose back plate screw holes land inside the fixing area. That's why it comes in two sizes: Tall & Slim for tall, narrow doorbells and Regular for Ring and Ring-size ones. If you have something unusual, ask us before you order.

I don't know my doorbell model. Which one do I buy?
You don't need the model. If it's a Ring or the same sort of width, buy the Regular. If it's tall and narrow, like most Eufy, Nest and Blink doorbells, buy the Tall & Slim. If you're unsure, send us a photo and we'll tell you.

Can I use it with a different doorbell later?
Yes. Take the old back plate off, punch new holes for the new one and screw it on. The wedge stays on the wall at the angle you set. It holds one doorbell at a time.

Will it work at 45° in a corner?
Yes. Set it to 45° and your doorbell points straight out of a 90° corner instead of at the wall beside it.

Does it work with wired doorbells?
Yes. Open the wedge by removing two of its body screws and loosening the other two, cut the two thin tabs and feed the cable in from the back, then close it up again before it goes on the wall. Battery doorbells simply sit on top.

Do I have to drill?
Not into the wall, if your surface suits the adhesive pad. And never drill the wedge itself. Punch it with a screwdriver.
